(Crisp) Movie Review: MURDER MYSTERY 2 by FENIL SETA

Murder Mystery 2, which has released today on Netflix, takes the story forward after the events of the first film. The film starts on an okay note but gets better with the pre-wedding sequence. The Indian touch is quite good and will be loved by Indian audiences. A few scenes in the first half are too funny. But after a point, the film gets underwhelming as things happen for the heck of it. The suspense is unexpected but also quite silly and not properly explained. Also, the film has a runtime of 90 minutes, with end credits taking up to 11 minutes. In other words, the film is just 79 minutes long and it ends too soon. Even Murder Mystery, the first part, wasn’t lengthy but at least had a good suspense factor. Speaking of performances, Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston are adorable and give their best. Adeel Akhtar (Maharajah) is quite entertaining. Mark Strong (Miller) leaves a mark but is let down by the script. Enrique Arce plays the creepy act well and brings the house down in a scene in the second half. Kuhoo Verma (Saira), Mélanie Laurent (Claudette), Jodie Turner-Smith (Countess Sekou), John Kani (Colonel) and Larry Myo Leong (Lou) are decent. Zurin Villanueva (Imani), Jillian Bell (Susan) and Dany Boon (Inspector Delacroix) also do well. All in all, though Murder Mystery 2 has its share of fun moments, it is an underwhelming flick due to the writing.

My rating – ** ½ out of 5!
