(Crisp) Movie Review: SISU by FENIL SETA

Sisu is a Finnish period action film about a man who discovers a lot of gold due to which he is being chased by Nazi death squad soldiers. There’s not much of a story and yet, this 93 minutes long film is gripping thanks to its action sequences. The makers make good use of the period setup and come up with some interesting fight scenes that keep the interest going. The climax fight is captivating while the final scene is impressive. However, a major track in the second half is too far-fetched and crosses all limits of cinematic liberties. Secondly, there’s no emotional arc to the character and hence, one won’t for him constantly. Lastly, the idea of one dangerous man fighting a bunch of goons gives a déjà vu of John Wick. Speaking of performances, Jorma Tommila communicates just through his eyes and expressions rather than dialogues and is superb. Aksel Hennie and Jack Doolan are decent as the Nazis. From the girls, Mimosa Willamo leaves a mark. All in all, Sisu is worth watching for the action and Jorma Tommila’s performance.

My rating – *** out of 5!
