(Crisp) Movie Review: EVIL DEAD RISE by FENIL SETA

Evil Dead Rise is the fifth part of the Evil Dead film series and is a surprise success at the box office in India, though it has been released only in the English version. The 93 minutes long film doesn’t waste time and comes straight to the point. This time, the setting is not a forest but an eerie building and it gives a nice touch. However, having seen the earlier films in the series, a few plot points are predictable. Moreover, though a few shots are creatively shot, there’s nothing in the film that blew me away a la The Conjuring 2. The absence of subtitles also posed a problem. Speaking of performances, Lily Sullivan (Beth) is fine but it’s Alyssa Sutherland (Ellie) who steals the show. Gabrielle Echols (Bridget) and Morgan Davies (Danny) also leave a mark. Nell Fisher (Kassie) is adorable. All in all, Evil Dead Rise is worth a watch, that too on the big screen. (P.S.: DON’T MISS THE BEGINNING)

My rating – *** out of 5!
