(Crisp) Movie Review: DUNE by FENIL SETA

Dune is a cinematic spectacle consisting of out of the world VFX (pun intended). The way director Denis Villeneuve handles the scale, grandeur and yet doesn’t compromise on the human drama going on in the film is commendable. Some dramatic and action scenes are exceptional. However, the film is too long at 155 minutes and the second half tends to drag. Also, some bits are confusing and not easy to understand. Speaking of performances, Timothée Chalamet is a star and handles the lead part with panache. Rebecca Ferguson has the maximum screen time after Timothée and is excellent. Zendaya sadly has a cameo although her presence is arresting. Oscar Isaac and Josh Brolin are decent while Jason Momoa is terrific as expected. Stellan Skarsgård is menacing. Dave Bautista gets limited scope. Sharon Duncan-Brewster is too good. On the whole, Dune is an unusual, grand entertainer and if you plan to watch it, make sure you do it in the IMAX version.

My rating – *** out of 5!
