(Crisp) Movie Review: AAPLA MANUS by FENIL SETA

Aapla Manus is a Marathi film produced by Ajay Devgn and Nana Patekar and stars the latter in the lead role. It’s a thriller-mystery but also talks about the problems of generation gap, loneliness in old age etc. Adapted from a Marathi play (that later also had its Gujarati and Hindi versions, both starring Paresh Rawal), the film moves at a great pace and the various developments in the story and the manner in which it gets unraveled is quite entertaining. There are far too many twists in the turn and after a point, one does feel that it’s started to become a bit unconvincing. But the touching climax makes up for it. Performance wise, Nana Patekar plays both the roles with aplomb. As the lonely father, he seems a bit over the top initially but as one starts to understand him, the perception changes. As the cop, he’s kickass! Sumeet Raghavan gets to play a challenging character and he does it very well. Irawati Harshe plays her part with confidence. Definitely a film to watch out for, if it has released in your city!

My rating – **** out of 5!
