(Crisp) Movie Review: TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKAAR by FENIL SETA

Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is a fun-filled ride and kudos to the makers for not giving out the story in the trailer. Hence, one has no idea where the film will head. The issue it touches upon is very relevant and relatable in today’s times. Also, the conflict in the story is truly a masterstroke and hats off to Luv Ranjan for coming up with such a plot. His direction has also evolved and he has grown as a storyteller. A few emotional and dramatic sequences are well-written and helmed. On the flipside, after the entry sequence, the film drops for around 20 minutes. Some jokes and monologue-style one-liners don’t have the desired impact. The second half drags and also the unequal duration of the first and second halves spoils the joy to some extent. Speaking of performances, Ranbir Kapoor is in top form and he shines in the emotional scenes. Shraddha Kapoor looks gorgeous and gives an equally fine performance. Anubhav Singh Bassi and Dimple Kapadia are great in supporting parts. Boney Kapoor sadly has been wasted. Monica Chaudhary (Kinchi), Hasleen Kaur (Mickey’s sister Minny), Inayat Verma (Mickey’s niece Sweetu) and Jatinder Kaur (Mickey’s grandmother) are lovely. Songs are memorable. Hitesh Sonik’s background score is impactful. All in all, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is a well-made entertainer.

My rating – *** ½ out of 5!
