(Crisp) Movie Review: JAGGA JASOOS by FENIL SETA

Jagga Jasoos deserves praise for his scale, action, fantasy and musical element. Most of the dialogues rhyme and they are very nicely done. The first half is decent and the manner in which Jagga solves local cases makes for a nice watch. But the Africa portions, though it has its moments, is stretched and not well made. In fact, the film becomes very incoherent at this point. Climax is shockingly juvenile and it’s bewildering how it got approved in the first place. The final scene is shocking and is sure to give viewers a jolt (setting the base for the sequel) but it comes too late in the day. Ranbir Kapoor is terrific and puts his heart and soul in the film. It is very unfortunate that this will be yet another disaster for this marvelous performer. Katrina Kaif is lovely and her goofy side comes out very well. Saswata Chatterjee (of Kahaani fame) is lovely. Songs are toooo many and few of them stand out. If a list is made on films that lost a golden opportunity, Jagga Jasoos’s name would be right on top!

My rating – ** ½ out of 5!
