(Crisp) Movie Review: INDOO KI JAWANI by FENIL SETA

Indoo Ki Jawani is a fun-filled entertainer that works because it’s of novelty and witty script. This is probably the first time where dating apps play an important part in a Hindi film. Also, the film touches upon prejudices, mind-set in small towns and of course India vs Pakistan debate. The way writer-director Abir Sengupta has got all these aspects together makes for a great watch. On the flipside, the film drags in the middle of the first and second hour. The climax could have been more nail biting. Speaking of performances, Kiara Advani is cuteness overloaded! Just watching her playing the prejudiced and opinionated Indoo is a pleasure! She also gets a great chance to showcase her acting talent. Hence, the film might not work but she’ll definitely benefit from this film. Aditya Seal looks dashing and performs ably. Mallika Dua is hilarious and gets her act right. Iqbal Khan is a surprise of the movie. Raghav Raj Kakker (‘Karamchand’ of Scam 1992) is quite decent. Rakesh Bedi, Rajendra Sethi and Chittranjan Tripathi are well-casted in the roles of ‘tharki’ uncles. Jitendra Rajput has an important part in the film and gives a great performance. All in all, Indoo Ki Jawani is unlike any other romcom or comedy of errors and hence, deserves a watch!

My rating – *** ½ out of 5!
