Dono marks the directorial debut of Sooraj Barjatya’s son Avnish S Barjatya and the acting debut of Sunny Deol’s son Rajveer Deol and Poonam Dhillon’s daughter Paloma. It is set during a destination wedding in Thailand. The film scores due to simplicity. There’s no action, sex or violence. Like any other Rajshri film, this is meant for the families. At the same time, Avnish brings a modern touch. The characters and their problems are relatable. Moroever, the madness that happens during a destination wedding and the comical characters which are there in every family are well presented. Sadly, the film is very lengthy. A crucial track makes no sense. Moreover, the leading actors don’t deliver worthy performances. Both Rajveer Deol and Paloma have a fine screen presence but need to fine-tune their craft. Kanikka Kapur (Alina) is decent. Rohan Khurana (Nikhil) gets no scope. Aditya Nanda and Manik Papneja (Gopal aka Gappu) leave the maximum mark. Sanjay Nath (Jagmohan; groom’s father) is excellent as the man who never smiles. Micky Makhija (Rajveer’s father) fails to impress due to bad writing. Songs are forgettable. All in all, Dono is a clean family entertainer and worth watching once.
