(Crisp) Movie Review: BHEDIYA by FENIL SETA

Bhediya rests on a very interesting concept. Director Amar Kaushik has shot the film in unexplored locations of Arunachal Pradesh and on top of that, the VFX is very superior. Even the 3D effects are first-rate. Niren Bhatt’s dialogues are hilarious and it prevents the goings-on from becoming too heavy. The climax is unusual and moving. Sadly, the film has its share of problems. The first half is just okay and a few jokes are distasteful. While the second half is better, the backstory is not explained properly and a few questions are left unanswered. The songs are forgettable. Speaking of performances, Varun Dhawan is terrific and has given his hundred per cent to the role. He also shed his inhibitions and delivered a memorable performance. Kriti Sanon looks lovely and delivers a fine performance. Sadly, her screen time is limited though her character is significant. Abhishek Banerjee is the best part of the film and brings the house down. Paalin Kabak is a fine talent and leaves a huge mark. Deepak Dobriyal, as expected, is dependable. Saurabh Shukla and Sharad Kelkar are wasted. All in all, Bhediya is a decent watch, though not as great as the earlier film in this franchise – Stree. If you watch it, do give it a try in 3D!

My rating – *** out of 5!
