(Crisp) Movie Review: BADRINATH KI DULHANIA by FENIL SETA

Badrinath Ki Dulhania has its moments and gives an important message. But the manner in which it is presented especially in the beginning portions seems dated. In today’s times, when there’s a lot of awareness about crime against women, it’s not a great sight to see an over-confident guy stalking a girl and following her in the bus, college etc. And we the viewers are supposed to hoot for the ‘hero’. Thankfully and obviously, the guy has a change of heart soon but even then, his actions are extremely juvenile, silly and destructive not for him but for the love of his life too. The finale is convenient and hardly believable. The performances however are excellent. Varun Dhawan kills it while Alia Bhatt yet again proves her worth. Sahil Vaid was great in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania but here, he’s even better. Rituraj Singh looks every inch the scary father and does very well. Shweta Basu Prasad highly impresses and it was so good to see the Iqbal girl after a hiatus. Aparshakti Khurrana, previously seen in Dangal, shines in a small role. The germ of the film is great but the content is unconvincing and hence, this one proves to be a disappointment!

My rating – ** out of 5!
