ANIMAL WILL STRUGGLE TO REACH THE 500 CRORE MARK BUT THE JOB IS DONE

Ranbir Kapoor’s latest release Animal released with a bang on December 1, collecting Rs. 52.50 crores. The collections jumped to Rs. 56 crores and Rs. 61 crores on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Usually, films on Monday collect 50% of what they do on Friday. But Animal collected Rs. 38 crores on Monday. Its first week collections were Rs. 289 crores as it amassed Rs. 22.50 crores on the last day of the first week, that is, Thursday, December 7.

Then on Friday, December 8, the collections dropped minimally and it earned Rs. 22 crores. This was followed by a jump on Saturday (Rs. 31.50 crores). The Sunday jump, however, was missing as it collected Rs. 33.50 crores. The film is expected to collect around Rs. 418 crores by Thursday, December 14.

Until last week, it seemed that it might cross the collections of Pathaan (Rs. 512.76 crores), Gadar 2 (Rs. 515.13 crores) and Jawan (Rs. 555.84 crores). Now, this seems like a distant dream as even crossing the Rs. 500 crore mark might be a task. This is because it has the opportunity to earn only till Wednesday, December 20. Thursday, December 21 will see the release of Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki. Salaar, starring Prabhas, will release on December 22. These two are massive, exciting films and will take away a chunk of the screens. As a result, earning close to Rs. 100 crores to at least cross Pathaan and Gadar 2’s earnings seems remote, unless the Christmas releases don’t find takers.

Nevertheless, the job is done for the film. It is now the fifth blockbuster of 2023. To have such collections is not easy for an ‘A’ rated film with 3 hours plus run time. Animal has, thus, achieved the unthinkable. Also, it has earned Rs. 85 crores from the dubbed versions in India and Rs. 189 crores worldwide in all languages. The total collections of Animal in all formats in 12 days across the world are a huge Rs. 727 crores and it is the third-highest worldwide grosser of 2023 in Hindi after Jawan and Pathaan.

Now, all eyes are on how Animal performs in the coming weekend with zero competition and then how it performs once it gets competition for the first time.
