GADAR 2 GOES BEYOND EXPECTATIONS; OMG 2 EXPECTED TO JUMP FROM SATURDAY

Last year, Bollywood had a poor Independence Day week as both Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan failed and how. It was the lowest point of the industry after which slowly, things got better. Now 365 days later, the mood is euphoric. Gadar 2 is all set for a smashing opening while OMG 2 might also surprise.

Gadar, as we all know, is one of the greatest hits of Indian cinema. During its release, it broke all records. Yet, there were apprehensions that the sequel might not get a huge response as Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel are not that big anymore. Hence, the sceptics got the shock of their lives as the tickets started selling like hot cakes as soon as the advance booking opened. In smaller towns, moviegoers don’t book in advance. But for this film, many preferred to buy tickets days before release. As days passed, the ticket sales increased. 2 days back, it seemed like the film would open at Rs. 20-25 crores. Now, there’s a possibility that Gadar 2 can open at Rs. 35 crores or even Rs. 40 crores!

The advance booking for Saturday and Sunday is also strong. And then there’s the Independence Day holiday on Tuesday, August 15 which can also be huge. Hence, if the reports are positive, Gadar 2 can enter the Rs. 200 crore or even Rs. 300 crore club! And if the film is bad, the buzz is so much that it can still do business of a minimum Rs. 150 crores!

OMG 2, meanwhile, stars Pankaj Tripathi in the lead and has Akshay Kumar in a supporting part. The film faced negativity due to the issues it faced at the Censor Board. A lot of cuts have been imposed on the film. This has made viewers apprehensive as they fear that the film might be recklessly cut. The ‘A’ rating has also added to the challenge. At the same time, a certain curiosity has been built around the film due to the controversy. The Gadar 2 wave will definitely affect the opening. Yet, it can open at Rs. 7-8 crores. If the word of mouth is positive, it can emerge as Akshay Kumar’s first hit in almost two years.
