Verity‘s casting is its biggest plus point. The film begins on an intriguing note and instantly evokes a sense of déjà vu from The Housemaid. Soon, the story switches gears and the novel goings-on immerse viewers into the world. However, after a point, the film gets too disturbing. The climax is hatke but also puzzling and doesn’t work as intended. A simplified ending would have been ideal. Anne Hathaway is on a roll and essays a character drastically different from her recent releases. She rises above the script and delivers an exceptional performance. Dakota Johnson is great and her deadpan expressions work well for the character. Josh Hartnett gets slightly overshadowed by the two leading ladies but still manages to register a strong impact. All in all, Verity is disappointing.
