Gehraiyaan is a thought-provoking relationship drama that keeps one captivated from start to finish. The film is of international standards, in terms of visuals, treatment, music and even content. The beginning is a bit shaky and it takes a while to understand how the characters and their families are all related to each other. The second half is very exciting and kudos to the makers for not revealing an important track in the trailers at all. I would not like to get into the details as I don’t want to spoil the joy but I can only say that expect the unexpected. The final scene is also superb. Speaking of performances, Deepika Padukone is terrific. This is one of her most accomplished performances and she proves yet again that she’s one of the finest actresses today in Bollywood. Siddhant Chaturvedi is apt for the part and excels, especially in the later half of the film. Ananya Panday, too, tries to give her best and slips well in the role of Tia. Dhairya Karwa gets limited scope and is fine. Naseeruddin Shah and Rajat Kapoor are great in supporting roles. Music has a niche appeal and ‘Doobey’ is quite catchy. All in all, Gehraiyaan is a must watch and surely would be in my list of top films of 2022 when the year ends!
