(Crisp) Movie Review: BLUE BEETLE by FENIL SETA

Blue Beetle is the story of a young chap who turns into a superhero accidentally. The film moves at a nice pace and the narrative is peppered with some funny and dramatic scenes. The action scenes are well choreographed and VFX, as expected, is top-class. However, it offers nothing new. We have seen many such superhero origin stories before. It is also predictable. Moreover, family plays an important part in the film and some of their scenes are unconvincing. Xolo Maridueña is great in the lead role. Bruna Marquezine (Jenny Kord) and Belissa Escobedo (Milagro aka Mili) are decent. George Lopez (Uncle Rudy) steals the show. Susan Sarandon (Victoria Kord) is passable as the villain. Adriana Barraza (Nana; grandmother) is cute and Damián Alcázar (Alberto; father) is likeable. Raoul Max Trujillo (Carapax) plays a well-written character and does fine. All in all, Blue Beetle is an average film.

My rating – ** ½ out of 5!
