Ata Thambaycha Naay is a Marathi film that was released on May 1 and stars Ashutosh Gowariker in one of the leading roles. It is inspired by the real-life incident where a municipal commissioner motivated a group of class 5 BMC employees to complete their Class 10 education. The employees are reluctant and how they get convinced to take the plunge forms the crux of the film. The narrative style reminds one of Rajkumar Hirani films and also of Super 30. The characters are straight out of life and are living a hand-to-mouth existence; this bit is showcased truthfully. The film is made in association with BMC and it’s probably the first film to be shot in its headquarters. Usually, one would expect a whitewashed version, but thatโs not the case. It shows the issues within BMC as well. There are a lot of funny and touching moments and it makes for a great watch. The interval point and climax are clapworthy. Sadly, the writing is of convenience, and the pre-climax is too quick; things could have been explained in a neat and slow manner. Ashutosh Gowariker has a supporting but crucial role and is apt for the part of the kind-hearted assistant commissioner. Bharat Jadhav (Sakharam Manchekar) and Siddharth Jadhav (Maruti Kadam) are terrific and take the film to dizzying heights. Om Bhutkar (Nilesh Mali sir) puts in a sincere effort, while Prajakta Hanamghar (Jayshree Kamble) and Kiran Khoje (Apsara Jadhav) are entertaining. Parna Pethe (Miss Seema), Pravin Dalimbkar (Pravin Sawant), Deepak Shirke (Maruti’s father) and Shrikant Yadav (union leader) lend able support. Rohini Hattangady is adorable in a special appearance. All in all, Ata Thambaycha Naay tells a true story with conviction and entertainment. Highly recommended!
