(Crisp) Movie Review: AGRA by FENIL SETA

Agra is directed by Titli director Kanu Behl and just like his 2015 film, this one is also about a dysfunctional family. Agra shows reality as very few films have, be it the character’s way of life, their struggles, their dark sides, their costumes etc. The film begins on an astonishing and even amusing note and then gets quite disturbing. A few scenes are arresting. However, there’s a change of tonality in the second half. One expects things to go a certain way because that’s how the set-up has been done. However, it takes a turn. Instead of surprising the audience, it dents the impact. Speaking of performances, Mohit Agarwal is terrific and gets totally into the skin of his character. Priyanka Bose is the best performer in the film and gets all aspects of her character, including her handicap, right. Rahul Roy suits the part but doesn’t get much scope. Vibha Chibber is dependable. Aanchal Goswami (Chaavi) and Sonal Jha (Aunty) leave a mark. All in all, Agra is a fine effort.

My rating – *** out of 5!
