WILL TOILET – EK PREM KATHA GIVE INDUSTRY THE MUCH NEEDED HIT?
2017 hasn’t been great for Bollywood. The only blockbuster till date has been Baahubali 2, which was a dubbed film. Post Baahubali 2, not a single Hindi film has achieved complete success. Tubelight and last week’s Jab Harry Met Sejal were expected to score highly at the box office. But both failed. Tubelight at least managed to cross 100 crore mark. Jab Harry Met Sejal meanwhile is expected to struggle to reach the 70-crore-mark!
Hence, a lot of expectations are put on Toilet – Ek Prem Katha, that releases tomorrow. It stars Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar and is directed by Shree Narayan Singh. It deals with a relatable idea that installing toilets in every household is a must. It is also in sync with the government’s Swacch Bharat campaign. Hence, it is expected to get tax free status in several states. This would be great because the film is already looking exciting and entertaining. Tax exemption would boost the collections even more.
The release of Toilet – Ek Prem Katha is wide but the film is not expected to take a record opening. A 10-15 crore opening is on the cards which would be fine. If the film is liked, it can do even better in the days to come. There are plenty of holidays in the coming days – Janmashtami on Monday August 14, Independence Day on Tuesday August 15 and Parsi New Year on Thursday August 17. As a result, Toilet – Ek Prem Katha can have a great run at the box office in Week 1. But this can happen only if the response is positive. If it’s not, the film won’t crash like Jab Harry Met Sejal but the collections would be on the lower side.
The industry and viewers badly need a well-made, successful film and here’s hoping that Toilet – Ek Prem Katha is that film!
