Governor tells an unknown but fascinating chapter about how India navigated a massive economic crisis. It is a challenge to handle this subject as it’s all about economics. Hence, it could have gone bouncer for a section of the viewers. Thankfully, director Chinmay D Mandlekar focuses on simplicity. He makes sure that the goings-on are easy to understand. He also infuses humour; one funny scene at a crucial point is too good. On the flipside, the interest level dips at several places. The makers try their best, but the film doesn’t look cinematic enough. The sets and even the background score give a very OTT vibe, while the music is very poor. Manoj Bajpayee, like always, hits the ball out of the park. Noushad Mohamed Kunju (CR) is like the second hero of the film and leaves a tremendous mark. Madhoo Shah (Vandita) is adorable; Adah Sharma (Aditi Verma) gives a memorable performance. Paritosh Sand (Sharma) and Jaywant Wadkar (Peon) do very well. Devaang Bagga (Deepak) is fine, but his track is forced and adds to the runtime needlessly. Sanjay Sonu (Shekhar; Prime Minister) and Rajeev Gaursingh (Sinha; Finance Minister) are decent. Jigar Shah (Manmohan Singh) hams in the first half but gets his act right in the end. All in all, Governor is a decent one-time watch.
