(Crisp) Movie Review: BAWAAL by FENIL SETA

Bawaal, which has released today on Amazon Prime Video, tells an interesting story in a novel and unconventional manner. The entry scenes of both actors are superb. The conflict is well-established and the film goes many notches higher when the madness shifts to Europe. After a long time, one will see a comic relief track in a Hindi film and it’s refreshing. The emotional scenes make an impact. However, the World War II angle gets a bit heavy after a point. Also, the desired impact is not made as it’s repetitive. The finale is predictable and stretched. The performances, however, are superb. Both Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor are terrific and show a marked improvement in their acting. Manoj Pahwa (Ajju’s father) and Anjuman Saxena (Ajju’s mother) are dependable. Prateek Pachori (Bipin) is too good. Vyas Hemang (Kalpesh) is hilarious. Mukesh Tiwari is okay. All in all, Bawaal is a decent watch. It could have been much better but full marks to the team for attempting something hatke.

My rating – *** out of 5!
