War 2‘s idea must have sounded interesting on paper but it comes at a time when there’s probably fatigue for such slick spy films. On top of it, in terms of script and direction, it is nowhere close to War, Ek Tha Tiger, Pathaan, Tiger Zinda Hai or even Tiger 3. The first half manages to hold interest with the interval block turning out to be unexpected. But the film goes downhill in the second half. The goings on get silly and also, the villain track is bizarre. Even the romantic angle doesn’t work. Both Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR constantly try to rise above the substandard script and deliver a fine performance. Kiara Advani looks stunning and does great in action scenes. Anil Kapoor is okay and is let down by the writing. Ashutosh Rana, K C Shankar (Gautam Gulati) and Varun Badola (Vilas Sarang) are decent. All in all, War 2 is the weakest film of the YRF Spy Universe.
