Hoppers is a Disney-Pixar film that tells the story of a 19-year-old girl trying to save a natural ecosystem in her locality from being destroyed for a roadway project. The plot is extremely relatable as it mirrors what’s happening right out around us – trees being felled in the name of development, while nature lovers being silenced. But since it’s a Disney animated film, the plot is narrated in an entertaining style. The way the protagonist turns into a beaver and the madness that ensues is too good. However, the film gets too heavy in the middle of the second half. Too many things happen and newer characters are introduced, which takes the focus away from the confrontation between the student and the mayor. The film gets back on track during the finale. The voiceovers are satisfactory by Piper Curda (Mabel), Bobby Moynihan (King George), Dave Franco (Titus), Meryl Streep (Insect Queen), Jon Hamm (Mayor Jerry) etc. All in all, Hoppers deserves to be seen for its message and entertainment quotient.
My rating – *** Β½ out of 5!
